Bantwal: Jilted lover kills girl, commits suicide at Koila

Bantwal, Jan 3: In a shocking incident, a youth killed a girl he was in love with, before committing suicide by hanging himself from a tree. The incident was reported at KSDC cashew plantation in Pandavaraguhe at Koila here on Tuesday January 3.

Sujith (28), a resident of Kudumani in Rayee village, allegedly killed Divya (23), a resident of Kudunagudde here. Sujith then hanged himself from a tree.

Police sources said that love failure led to the youth's act.

Sujith, who was engaged in centering work in Mangaluru, had fallen in love with Divya, who was working at a private firm in the same city.

It is said that Sujith and Divya were in love for the past three years, but of late, Divya had started ignoring him and turned him down. Angered at being jilted, Sujith asked Divya to come to th cashew plantation on Tuesday. Police sources said that Sujith had sent a message to his friend that if he and Divya were to die, they should be cremated together.

On Tuesday, when both of them went missing, a search was launched, during which a bike was found parked near the plantation. On inspection, bodies of Sujith and Divya were found at the spot. Sujith had allegedly killed Divya using a sharp dagger.

The murder weapon, a backpack, two mobile phones, a pair of sandals and other items were found at the spot.

Bantwal rural police SI Rakshith and other personnel arrived at the spot and investigated.

A case has been registered in the Bantwal rural police station.
