Dubai: SMMC to hold one-day indoor sports event on Feb 17

Dubai, Jan 4: St Mary’s Mangalorean Community (SMMC) Dubai has announced this year’s first mega event ‘SMMC Sports Cup - 2017’. A friendly, one-day indoor cricket and throwball tournament will take place at the Sprite Insportz Sports Club Dubai on Friday, February 17.

Since its inception in 2013, SMMC, a novel organization at the St Mary’s Catholic Church Dubai is functioning to fulfill the spiritual and social requirements of the vast Mangalurean Konkani community of Dubai and has successfully organized the programmes like dramas, sports event, competitions etc. And now, with the support of SMMC spiritual director Fr Robert Lasrado, the present SMMC committee has planned this event as its first venture of the year 2017.

SMMC solicits kind support from the Konkani community for this event, through generous contribution and active participation to make this event a successful one.

This sports contest is a full day indoor event, open only for Catholic teams, where numerous competent teams from different emirates are expected to participate. Attractive gifts and trophies will be presented to the individuals for their outstanding performance and to the winning.


Teams are invited to play in the following categories:

• Cricket (Men)
• Throwball (Women)
• Throwball (Men)

Registration fee will be AED 500 per team. It will be open on ‘first come first serve’ basis. Water and lunch will be provided for each participating team.

Also registration can be done directly in Fr Robert Lasrado’s office at St Mary’s Church, Dubai.
