Udupi, Jan 6: The fifth All India convention of Samskritha Bharathi started with fanfare on Friday January 6 at Rajangana, Udupi.

Sumitra Mahajan, the speaker of Lok Sabha, inaugurated the convention and said, “Sanskrit is one of the ancient languages and the facts in the language are more effective for present day life. The Samskritha Bharathi is like the lung of the country. All good qualities for people are found in Sanskrit literature.”

“We need to spread the language all over and not merely try to protect it. We should also promote study of Sanskrit literature. There is a possibility that Sanskrit will become a global language and India will become a global leader if the study of Sanskrit is carried out well in the country,” she added.

Answering to media regarding molestation cases in Bengaluru, Mahajan said, “These kinds of incidents are happening all over India. The mentality of people should change first for women. It is not only the responsibility of police or the government, but people should also come out to curb these incidents. This is not only the problem of Bengaluru or Delhi but it is a social problem. It is happening even in villages. People should spread awareness about these incidents and teach our children to respect women.”

Dr Chand Kiran Salooja, president of All India Samskritha Bharathi said, “Sanskrit is not only the language but also a science. Every Sukthi, Manthra, Upanishad and Veda has tremendous impact on life. People were bewildered if we talked Sanskrit a few years back but now they are accepting it in many parts of the world.”

Speaking on the occasion, Vishwesha Theertha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Math said, “I thank all activists who came here for the protection of nation, language and the culture of India. Sanskrit is called as the language of God, but it is more than that. Sanskrit is the origin of all Indian languages. Sanskrit has been accepted by many countries in world. The people who are working for Sanskrit should try to reach this language to all people in the world.”

Sumitra Mahajan also released a book ‘Life story of Guruji.’ The book is based on the second Sarasangha Chalak of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh in Sanskrit language.

People from 565 districts of India take part in the convention. As many as 2095 foundations and 300 scholars are part of the programme.

Sri Vidyasagara Shreepada Swamiji from Krishnapura Math, Shobha Karandlaje the Member of Parliament, Udupi – Chikkamagaluru constituency and Pramod Madhwaraj the district in-charge minister and the minister of fisheries, sports and youth empowerment were present among others.
