Mangaluru Jan 7: The doctors and medicos from city under the leadership of Indian Medical Association(IMA) with various entities like AMC, COS, FDA, API, Hospital Association, FOGSI , KGMO supported by nurses and staff from various hospitals and medical colleges staged a protest march from the IMA House to DC office here on Saturday January 7.

Speaking to media, president of IMA Dr Raghavendra Bhat said, “Karwar MP Ananth Kumar Hegde assaulted two doctors and a hospital staffer alleging that his mother was made to wait for the treatment for a fracture. This act is immoral and MP has taken law into his hands which is unacceptable. The government had passed Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Medical Service Personnel and Damage to Property In Medicare Service Institutions Act, 2009, and it is hardly implemented. Under the act offender will be fined Rs 50,000 and faces three years imprisonment”.

“Such incidents are demoralising. If this goes on, common people will suffer because doctors will be scared to take up emergency cases, fearing harm and no one should not indulge in any immoral activity.” he added.

Later memorandum was submitted to deputy commissioner.

The protest was also against the assault on doctors at Hassan and assault by MLA Vinay Kulkarni on Dr Devraj Raichur, said the press release from protestors.

The peaceful protest was well attended and included senior doctors Dr Shantharam Shetty, Dr I G Bhat, Dr G K Bhat, Dr K R Kamath, Dr Sudhakar Bhandary, Dr Annayya Kulal, Dr Prakash Harishchandra, Dr Yusuf Kumble, Dr Mohammed Ismail and Dr Janardhan Aithal.

Action of MP Anant Kumar is not justifiable, wounded age old lady was on stretcher for 3 hours is a peak of humanity, i strongly feel rather coming on to the street IMA should settle it in police station. IMA set guideline for the doctors and have a thorough inquiry punish the doctor who did not meet the need of the patient. Noble profession is not more noble and professionals are no more honest and committed like older days simultaneously people are today aware about rights, since MP assaulted it was news in this way if person like me assaulted the doctor news would have been negligence from physician?? High time to rectify the mistakes physicians are committing if not health services also becomes like a politics, bureaucracy and judiciary. They are going in a very high speed to overtake all three core corrupt pillars of the country.

Whoever it may be iresspective of any political party whether the politician Congress or BJP or any other party, he should be dealt severely and punished. Doctors are always trying to help and try their best to save so many lives.

Forget three years jail! If all Doctors of India can sent this arrogant MP for one month in jail....I will salute them! Any BJP politician has courage to give one line statement on Ananth Kumar????! People of Karnataka PLEASE PROVE THAT THIS POLITICIAN IS NOT ABOVE LAW AND LAWS ARE NOT FRAMED ONLY FOR A COMMON MAN! EVERY DOCTOR AND MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL WANTS THIS ARROGANCE TO BE PUNISHED!! Evidence is clear as day! Why delay? WHY he is not arrested yet??? Unbailable warrant is need of the day!
