Udupi, Jan 8: "It is certain that India will become a digital nation and go cashless soon. I call upon student volunteers to go to at least ten houses and educate them about the concept of cashless society," said union minister for human resource development, Prakash Javadekar after inaugurating two facilities at Manipal College of Dental Sciences on Sunday, January 8.

Addressing the gathering at the Fortune Inn Valley View hall, Javadekar said, "People of this era are witnessing great change in the country. It is a transformation of India from cash to less cash society which is a historic milestone. Each student should be a volunteer of this transformation and register his name for it. From the past 20 days nearly 2,30,000 college students have registered their names in this awareness drive from all over the country.

"First, we have to make our home digital; then, we have to convince other families to go cashless. After that convincing shopkeepers, street vendors and others will be easy. Money is just a medium of exchanging things.

"According to current survey, about 109 crore people have Aadhaar cards, 100 crores of people are using mobile phones and 147 crore people have saving bank account. Last month, nearly 25,000 crore new Jan Dhan accounts were opened which is a record.

"People of India are using and adopting technology much faster than other countries. The real problem is changing the mindset of people. In this regard, youth play a vital role. Emergency was imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi which created history in a democratic country. The demonetisation policy of Modi has etched another milestone. Nearly 50 crore people were using cards last year. It figure has now increased to 77 crore.”

"There are 1.35 lacs bank branches, 1.55 lacs post offices, 1.25 lac business correspondents and 1.25 lac ICT Seva Kendras which are providing digital services. From December 2 to 20, 2016 in just 18 days digital transactions on petrol pump have gone up from 20% to 70%. Common people, tea vendors, rickshawalas have adopted their own way to run business like e-Wallet, PoS Machine and other digital modes. There are various digital payment modes such as Debit/Rupay/Prepaid cards, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS), United Payments Interface, Mobile wallets and Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM)," said Javadekar.

Describing the different digital modes, Javadekar said, "BHIM is a real game changer. It is a platform for all businessmen and about eight million people downloaded this app."

Explaining about the government's lucky draw scheme for online transactions, he said, "Every day 15,000 families doing digital transactions will stand a chance to win Rs 1,000 in their accounts as 'lucky gruhaks' and customers will get prizes."

Dr Ranjan R Pai, MD and CEO of Manipal Education and Medical Group, Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, Manipal University Dr H Vinod Bhat, vice-chancellor, Manipal University and Dr Narayana Sabhahit, registrar, Manipal University and others were present.

Udupi: Demonetisation a firm step towards development - Union minister Javadekar

Udupi, Jan 8: "We will win the upcoming elections in all the five states. Prime Minister Modi's demonetisation is a bold step in the right direction. Though the decision may seem harsh, it is part of the firm steps the present NDA government is taking on the path of overall development," said union human resource development minister Prakash Javadekar here on Sunday, January 8.

Javadekar was speaking to media during his visit here to participate in Sanskrit Bharathi Convention at Sri Krishna Math.

“All of Modi’s policies are pro-poor. We are going to fight the elections with the agenda of development. SIT to unearth black money and Benami Property Act are tough decisions. Demonetisation policy has been liked by people. ‘Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas’ is a definite and firm step. We are accepting suggestions for the new educational policy. A draft bill will be made after an expert committee is formed. We are sure that we will triumph in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Manipur soon.” Javadekar added.

Javadekar visited the Goshala and the Kanakana Kindi at Sri Krishna Math. He also called on Pejawar Swamiji, had an interaction with him and sought his blessings.

Speaking at the Sanskrit Convention later, Javadekar said, "Only an Indian language can shape future for India. Only this language can bring development. We need to love our language. At the same time, we should respect other languages. All the languages of the land will be nurtured. Most of the money collected through demonetisation will be used on health and education of the country."
