Bengaluru:Proud to be person of Indian origin - Portugal PM Antonio Costa

Bengaluru, Jan 9 (DHNS): Portugal Prime Minister Antonio Costa on Sunday recalled his Indian roots at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bengaluru and said that he was proud to be a person of Indian origin.

Costa, who traces his roots to Goa, was the chief guest at PBD-2017. "Yes, I am actually a person of Indian origin," Costa said and even took out a card from his coat pocket and waved it at the audience. The delegates applauded Costa's gesture.

The 54-year leader recalled that his father - Orlando da Costa - had spent most of his youth in Goa, which was then under the Portuguese rule. “My father spent his childhood in Goa. We have never lost ties with India. I still have many relatives in Margao and will be visiting them shortly,” he said.

Costa said it is the duty of diaspora to connect the country of their origin with that in which they presently live.

Portugal has never apologised for the Portugese Inquisition in Goa. They are not sorry for the cruelty and hardship they inflicted on Goans.

Because in India, Indians get corruption sickness very much easily, creative or induced where as Indians elsewhere do get laurels very easily.

    Enlightenment is a bliss.

Goans already have free flow into Portugal. Migration to Portugal is most easiest to them than any other country. Well, its just for Goans, not to Indians from any other part of the country.

Now, don't hail PM Modi for this, this has been there since more than 60 years, did not start after 2014.

    Dear Juliet,
There is a huge difference between Mr. Anotinio Costa and the person in India who tried to become prime minister. Mr. Costa born in Portugal. His father too born, brought up and lived in Portuguese colonies and always remained loyal to Portugal. More over Mr Costa served as Minister, mayor before contesting for PM post. It is his greatness to say he is of Indian origin though he is actually not. Just dont compare my country with any other country with your biased mind set.

    Shakuna,

What could your reaction have been if Sonia had come conquering India ? She came to the nation as per husband's will, she did not invade !

Going by your stand, even Kalpana Chawla or Indira Nooi should have been confined to kitchen or branded 'Indian' Indian' at every step upward on the corporate ladder !
