Mangaluru: One held for defamatory post on Dr Ambedkar in Facebook

Mangaluru, Jan 12: Police from Pandeshwar station here arrested a person named Deepak Kamat on Wednesday January 11 on the allegation that he had made derogatory comments in social website, Facebook, relating to Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar, known as Father of Indian Constitution.

It is said that through social websites, Kamat had projected himself as a writer. By posting unwarranted comments about Dr Ambedkar in his Facebook account in the recent past, he had come under fire from Dalit community.

The police arrested Kamat on the basis of a complaint filed in Pandeshwar station by dalit leader, Ramesh Kotian and others. They stated that Kamat has made offensive comments about Dalit community, Mayavati etc. The comments made in Facebook include a statement that Dalit community eats beef, drinks liquor at night and blackmails others, they added. The complainants said that Deepak Kamat had acted unconstitutionally and betrayed his country through these writings.

    Isnt is ironic that you want law enforcement and courts to deal with the person to abused your godess. Dont you think that godess herself will punish the person if she felt she has been abused.

    I request all the people who get easily offended to avoid facebook, twitter and whatsapp. Please deal with a fact that social media is just not for you.

    I cant believe that govt is spending police resources on cases like these which will go nowhere.

    Dr. B.R.Ambedkar, the father of our Constitution, fought against social evils and inequality, and fought for the rights of the poor, marginalised and underprivileged sections of society.

    It's really unfortunate that a few people have not given him his due place in India's rich history, in spite of his invaluable contribution.
