Mangaluru, Jan 13: "The country is changing the tax regime from April 2017 to Good and Service Tax and it is neccessary for the dealers to get enrolled for GST by Sunday January 15, said joint commissioner (enforcement) B A Nanyappa.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday January 13, he said, "At present, we are having Karnataka value added tax (VAT) and from next financial year the nation-wide GST Act will be rolled out. Dealers registered under VAT need to enrol for a hassle-free and smooth transition to Goods and Service Tax.

"Karnataka has given enrollment period from January 1 to January 15 to Good and Service Tax, and so far 60% have enrolled and the remaining 40% should register by January 15. The department of commercial taxes will help traders tackle any diffiiculty in enrolling when they approach the department for the purpose.

"After January 15, the allotment will be shifted to another state and then it will be difficult to help them," he added.
