Udupi: Court turns down bail plea of rape, murder-accused

Udupi, Jan 23: The bail application filed by Sunil, who has been named as the accused in the case of rape and murder of Akshata Devadiga from Byndoor Henberu, has been turned down by the district sessions court at Udupi. This case has made state level headlines.

Judge of the district sessions court, T Venkatesh Naik, who headed the bail petition on Saturday January 21, dismissed the same. Akshata, a PU student, who was returning home by foot on June 17, 2015 after her college hours, was raped and murdered by the accused in a secluded place.

Due to the interest evinced by the then district superintendent of police, K Annamalai, the investigation had gained momentum and the accused was nabbed.
