Karnataka to hand over 1123 acres of land for Railway Coach Factory

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Karnataka has decided to hand over 1123 acres for the Indian Railways for setting up its railway coach factory in Srinivaspura taluk in Kolar district.

The land will be handed over in the next two to three months.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the district legislators and said Rs 250 crore would be released for acquiring lands from farmers. 

Lands would be given to the railways within three months, he told elected representatives from the district.

The rail coach factory would come up on 1,123 acres of land. Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) would commence the process of acquiring lands for the factory.

The estimated cost of the factory is Rs. 1,460-crore. The factory is expected to generate about 5,000 jobs. 

The previous UPA government has sanctioned the project in 2013 but the project did not progress further.
