Udupi, Jan 28: The two-day South Zone Inter-Allied Health Sports meet 2017 was organised by School of Allied Health Sciences (SOAHS), Manipal on January 23 and 24.
SOAHS beat AJ Institute of Allied Health Sciences in cricket to be crowned as champions.
While cricket matches were held at End Point Ground, volleyball matches were played at Sharada court. As many as 14 teams participated in the cricket matches. Five and two teams took part in the men's and women's volleyball matches respectively.
The chief guest on the occasion, Vinod Nayak, dean of SOAHS, Dr Rajshekhar, student affairs chairperson, Dr Bhamini K Rao, director of physical education and Shridhar H, sports advisor distributed the prizes for all the winners and runners-up teams.
Addressing the gathering at the valedictory function Nayak said, “An event of this scale is being held for the first time. An inter-allied event was arranged last year. I am sure, this event will be taken to greater heights and hope that many teams will participate next year”.
Vinod appreciated the organisers for the arrangements and congratulated the players for their active participation in the event.
The winners and the runners-up received trophies with certificates.
Rahul Kotian was awarded the 'Man of the Series' and the 'Best Batsman'. Fahis was crowned the 'Best Bowler'. Fahis, Rahul Kotian and Vaishnav won the 'Man of the Match' awards for their performances in the two semi-finals and finals respectively.
While Akilesh bagged the 'Best Player' award in men's volleyball, Kripali bagged the 'Best woman Player' award in women's volleyball.
