Kundapur: Two fire tragedies - cattle saved, shed, furniture, lost

Kundapur, Jan 30: In two separate accidents in the taluk which happened on Sunday January 29, cattle shed, furniture and other assets were destroyed.

In the incident which occurred at Kumbri in Koteshwar village, furniture and a large number of other items including furniture turned into ashes. It is said that when the fire got ignited, family members were away. The loss in this incident has been estimated at one lac rupees.

Koteshwar gram panchayat president, Janaki Billava, vice president, Uday Nayak, panchayat development officer, Mohan Rao and others visited the spot and assessed the loss.

The other tragedy occurred at Madlageri in Heroor village. The cattle shed owned by Parameshwar Acharya from the village burnt down completely due to short circuit. At around 2 am on Sunday, family members woke to the strange sounds made by their cattle and saw that the cattle shed was on fire. They released the cattle and tried to douse the fire with the help of their neighbours. However, the entire cattle shed along weih stock of areca nut, coconut, hay, agricultural implements and other items were turned to ashes. Fire brigade personnel came on the scene later and got involved in the task of extinguishing the fire with the locals. Taluk panchayat standing committee chairman, Mahendra Poojary and revenue officials who visited the spot prepared the report and evaluated the loss.
