New Delhi, Feb 15: In the latest development in the multi-crore kidney racket, the Delhi Police have arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Ravinder Singh for taking bribe from Dr Upendra, one of the accused.
The crime branch has filed a case of extortion against seven policemen including the ASI. All seven policemen allegedly took bribe from the accused.
Though the ASI has been arrested, constables are still absconding.
''ASI Ravinder Kumar Singh was arrested on Thursday for accepting a bribe of more than Rs 19 lakh from the driver of Dr Upendra,'' said Satyendra Garg, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Delhi Police.
Efforts are on to nab the policemen on the run and raids are being conducted in various parts of the city to catch them, Garg added.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that all the seven cops with the special Branch of Delhi Police's central district allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 19 lakh last month from the driver of Dr Upendra, one of the main accused.
Garg further said that a case under Section 384 of IPC (extortion) has been slapped against the policemen.
If found guilty, they could be jailed for up to three years or fine or both.
