Kerala: Jilted lover sets girl and self ablaze - Both die

Kottayam, Feb 2 (Agencies) : A campus love-and-hate affair turned tragic when two youngsters succumbed to their burn injuries at the Medical College Hospital here on Wednesday.

Aadarsh Suneethan, 26, a former student of MG University’s School of Medical Education (SME) on Gandhinagar campus, who was spurned by P. Lakshmi, 20, final-year student, poured petrol over both of them and set himself and her ablaze in the afternoon.

Though they were rushed to the MCH, they died in the evening. The incident occurred amidst dramatic scenes.

Aadarsh, a former Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) student, and son of Suneethan and Kumary of Puthenthura, Neendakara, had a love affair with Lakshmi, fourth-year student of BPT, and daughter of Krishnakumar of Chingoly near Haripad.

However, she had stopped talking to him after finding his character unacceptable.

Aadarsh, who completed the BPT course in 2013, had not passed the examinations. He came to the campus on Tuesday morning to write the supplementary examinations.

On Wednesday around 10 am, Aadarsh reached the classroom of Lakshmi and wanted to speak to her. However, the girl who was with her classmates, refused to talk to him. Aadarsh went back and returned with a bag on his shoulders by 1 pm.

According to the police, Aadarsh took out a can of petrol from his bag and poured it over the girl and himself. Lakshmi and the scared girl students in the class rushed out, but he pursued her and caught hold of her in the library room, hardly 20 metres from the classroom. He lighted the cigarette lamp over the girl and embraced her before other students could intervene.

Two students, Ajmala and Aswin, who saw Lakshmi running into the library, tried to intervene, but in vain. They were slightly injured on their hands and admitted to the MCH. The students and teachers who reached the spot extinguished the fire and took the two to the MCH.

Ettumanur judicial first class magistrate Ratheesh Kumar recorded the dying declaration of Aadarsh and Lakshmi at the MCH ICU.

Lakshmi suffered internal bleeding and 60 percent burns while Aadarsh had 75 percent burns. Kottayam MCH resident medical officer Dr R.P. Ranjan said that the two students died due to the severe burns.

Ettumanur circle inspector C.J. Martin said that Aadarsh in his dying declaration said that he had bought petrol from a pump at Varisserry.

Mr. Elangovan Rameswaram, first of all, if you do not like a person for any reason because of his behavior or because of his character it is right to stop being in touch. This action does not mean that a person is playing with somebodies emotion. I am sure even you stop speaking to someone, if you are angry and upset with them or if your thinking or personality does not match.

Second of all, Adarsh has proved by his action that he was very immature and naïve and the girl must have soon noticed this and decided that he is not suitable for her.

Also, No matter whose fault it is, nobody has the right to play with somebodies life. What Adarsh has done , is a very disgusting act and such action is not acceptable in the society.

Lastly, I feel sorry that a few people think it is the girls fault, but you choose to ignore the stupid decision taking by the young boy who could have made better use of his life than wasting it in such a manner. my deepest condolence to the family of Lakshmy, she or her family didn't deserve to see this day.

Girls please be careful in the future to think a Hundred times before getting into any relationship because it can simply cost your life.

One cant make the other to love by force ,he should have understood why she didnt like him,and he didnt achieve her love by killing her. When one loves ,doesnt harm the other.but hope to get her back,by improoving himself. So sorry for her family and his family too.May her soul rest in peace.

Idiot guy. Is this love jihad. this is also a lesson to youngsters to be careful while falling in love as 95 percent of these cases end up in failure or tragedy. Give attetion to your studies + future and dont fall in love. Your parents will arrange for your marriage at appropriate time. Dont try to Romeo and |Juliet. You cannot gain happiness by hurting your parents. Marry with acceptance of your beloved parents. This is acceptable to God also. Dont waste your life. Love is temporary. A boy usual loves any girl whom he finds beautiful. May God bless us with right way of thinking and keep us away from Devil.

If you face the true love accept it rather than running from it.This is not acceptable in the eyes of law or in the eyes of god.
