Mangaluru, Feb 2: Six persons, who were reported to be plotting Dinesh Shetty's escape from Hindalga jail at Belagavi where he has been lodged after having been sentenced to life, were arrested by the policemen on Wednesday, February 1. Dinesh Shetty happens to be one of the main accused connected with the sensational murder of city-based advocate, Naushad Kashimji, at Britto Lane, Falnir Road here on April 9, 2009. The third additional district and sessions court here, through its verdict dated November 27, 2015, had sentenced Shetty to life term imprisonment.

In the said case, Dinesh Shetty had called advocate, Naushad, over the phone to come out of his residence. Second and third accused in the case, Pratap Shetty, and Rohit, had fired at Naushad but the bullets had pierced through the thigh of Naushad. Pratap and Rohit had then hit the back of Naushad's head hard with the handle of the pistol and killed him.

The persons arrested for planning this jailbreak now are Veeramadana Reddy alias Deena (43) from Banashankari Bengaluru, Avinash Jagannath Marke (34) from Thane Mumbai, Muhammed Hanif Abubakker (33) and Abdul Karim Ibrahim (24) from Belandoor in Puttur taluk, Amjad Sayyed Abdul Rahman (37) from Ghatkopar Mumbai, and Tahir Hussain (36) from Yalahanka Bengaluru. Another accused, identified as Gulfam from Bengaluru, succeeded in giving the police a slip.

The police say that the above persons had planned to intercept the ambulance and police vehicle during the period they brought Dinesh Shetty to the district hospital from Hindalga jail. Dinesh was to act like falling sick for this purpose. The gang had planned to attack the escort police contingent and help Dinesh to escape, said deputy commissioner of police, J Radhika, at a press conference held on Wednesday at Belagavi.

Five among the plotters were taken into custody from in front of the district hospital Belagavi and another from near the Sambra airport. As the plotters and Dinesh needed money after the escape, the accused were waiting with a blue colour car on the road leading to the district hospital for waylaying someone and robbing them. The police, who found their behaviour suspicious, took them into custody and figured out about their plans. Five country-made pistols, 29 live cartridges, 15 cellphones, several sims, a car, and some lethal weapons also have been confiscated from them, the police personnel said.
