Mangaluru, Feb 3: The district Congress on Friday February 3 held a protest near RTO office here against the BJP-led central government for enforcing the new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill and also against the rising prices of fuel.

Addressing the protesters, district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai said, "Even during times of crisis, the UPA government took initiatives to control the fuel prices. But the BJP has hiked the prices even though international crude oil price has come down. Moter vehicle penalty is increasing everyday. Citizens need to ponder over these issues.

"BJP goverment is not worthy enough to bring back black money and this is a matter of shame. BJP is popular for speaking lies and it is moving towards Hitler-like dictatorship," he alleged.

Interim president of district Congress committee Ibrahim Kodijal said, "The BJP government led by Prime Minister Modi has disillusioned the people with fake promises. Prior to the election, he had promised to bring back the black money. Demonetisation was carried out without proper planning and without discussing either with the cabinet ministers or the opposition party. Congress party condemns Prime Minister Narendra Modi for going against democratic principles.

"International crude oil price has gone down drastically but the central government has increased the fuel prices. We are concerned about the citizens of this country. The government has increased the motor vehicle penalty sky high, and its difficult for hard working drivers from poor families to pay such fines. It is the duty of every citizen to remind Narendra Modi that he failed in keeping his promises," he said.

Zilla panchayat member Mamata Gatty said, "The BJP goverment is not letting the poor people live in peace. For years, the Congress goverment has worked hard for the progress of the country and BJP is tying to take all the credit now."

Mangaluru North block president Vishwas Das, former mayor Ida Alva, Ullal block president Santosh Kumar, Gurupur block president Prathvi Raj and others were present.
