Bantwal, Feb 6: Six BJP workers attacked two Bajrang Dal activists with soda bottles, iron rods, and stones on the night of Saturday February 4. The incident occurred at Salethur in the taluk near Vittal.

Pushparaj (27) from Barkala and Srikant (25) from Laxmikody, who are attached to Salethur unit of Bajrang Dal, were assaulted by Varun (24) from Killambarepadpu, Jayant (24) from Paltaje, Swagat (22) from Kooduraste, Lohit (27) from Agari, Ashwath(25) and Pushparaj (23) from Karaje, the injured youngsters stated.

Pushparaj and Srikant were chatting with some friends at around 11.30 pm on Saturday, when a gang suddenly approached them, hurled expletives, and attacked them, it is said. Reportedly the two gangs had developed animosity after Bajrang Dal activists objected to the shifting of Vicky Wines to near temple road from its earlier location near the Salethur Maidan. The injured persons said that the owners of this wine store had instigated the BJP workers to attack them.

After the injured duo filed a complaint, Vittal police visited the spot and undertook investigation.
