Mangaluru Feb 5: Edwin JF D’Souza, on Sunday February 5, was felicitated at Fathima Retreat house for recently winning central academy award of literature in Konkani, New Delhi.

After the felicitation, Edwin D Souza said, “You may have a question about how I managed to be a novelist. I'm happy to tell you that the credit goes to my family. I come from an literate family as they could read Kannada and Konkani periodicals. My mother was a primary school teacher. My aunt always used to send me books from Kuwait. Thus the habit of reading developed in me. I did my education at St Aloysius College and there were no books that I haven't read from the college library. I am grateful to my teachers for being a great guide to me.”

Speaking on the occasion writer Yashwant D S Shakthinagar said, “Edwin has contributed significantly towards Konkani literature. He is also well known for his translation works in literature. His short story ‘Chocolate’ appeared in Reader's Digest in  two editions. He has written 33 Konkani novels, more than 100 short stories and has been awarded 13 literature awards.”

Ex editor of Raknno Fr Mark Walder said, “I knew Edwin Dsouza since my seminary days. I am grateful to him for rendering his support whenever we needed. And I feel so happy and honoured to felicitate him.”

Writer Marcel Dsouza carried out the felicitation ceremony.
