Mangaluru, Feb 7: In a strange incident, Panambur police allegedly abandoned persons, including a woman, who were injured in a family clash in the middle of the road, resulting in a flash protest by the injured as well as locals and activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI). The incident took place at Kasba Bengre and Kulur here on Tuesday February 7.
It is said that two families had been engaged in a land dispute for a long time. Matters came to a head on Tuesday, in which one family attacked another with sharp weapons at Kasba Bengre.
Ahmed, his wife and two children were badly injured in the clash. The locals who witnessed the fight informed the police, who rushed to the spot.
As per initial information, the Panambur police reportedly took away the injured saying that they would admit them to hospital. However, the police allegedly instead left them in the middle of the road at Kulur junction and went away.
Shocked and hurt by the attitude of the Panambur police, the injured persons along with locals, and later DYFI activists, staged a flash protest at the spot. The injured were then taken to hospital.
Speaking to reporters, DYFI urged the police commissioner to probe the issue and take stringent action against the police personnel involved.
The incident resulted in a big traffic jam.
When contacted, Panambur police sources denied that they abandoned the injured, and clarified that the injured persons had requested the cops to drop them at Kulur junction and they did so.
