Mangaluru: Chappara Muhurat ahead of three-day Konkani Lokotsav

Mangaluru, Feb 8: The Chappara Muhurat for the upcoming three-day Konkani Lokotsav was held at Town Hall here on Wednesday, February 8.

The Konkani flag was hoisted by Roy Castelino, president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy. Konkani Lokotsav 2017 will be held on February 10, 11 and 12.

Addressing the gathering, Roy Castelino said, "All arrangements have been made for the 3-day Konkani Lokotsav. The chappara (pandal) has been set for various programmes. People in large numbers are expected to attend this event. Many teams will arrive for cultural programmes. We will have an antique items exhibition as well. We request everyone's cooperation and support to make this event successful."

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy former president Eric Ozario, registrar Devdas Pai, organising committee member Louis Pinto, members Stephen Quadros, Lawrence D'Souza, Irene Rebello, Santhosh Shenoy, James D'Souza, Geetha Kini, Naveen Lobo, Rathnakar Kudla, Elias Fernandes, Niranjan Rao, Vidya Kamath and Dr Vijayalakshmi Naik were present.

The three-day Konkani Lokotsav organised by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will witness all communities of Konkani speaking populace coming together at Town Hall. The festival will also see the Academy present its annual honorary and book awards at the valedictory function on February 13. Chief minister Siddaramaiah is expected to do the honours.

    Manglorean Konkani is mixed with Tulu and kannad languages. Let me know which konkani has a word known as chappara. Wt is the meaning of chappara? Let me know if there is a word knows as lokotsav in konakani. Manglorean konkani is today is tulu konkani or kannad konkani. Can we have original Konkani?
