Bengali actor Bitasta Saha's semi-decomposed body found in Kolkata flat

Kolkata, Feb 8 (India Today) : A semi-decomposed body of a Bengali actor was recovered from her flat in south Kolkata's Kasba area.

Bitasta Saha's semi-decomposed body was found hanging from the ceiling of her flat, police said.

After repeated phone calls went unanswered for almost two days, her mother visited the flat today where she used to stay alone. When Bitasta did not open the door after several knocks, her mother and neighbours informed the police.

Police broke the door and found the actress hanging from the ceiling, a police officer said.
According to police, the actor had injury marks on her left wrist but no suicide note was recovered from the site.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem and are probing if the actor was suffering from bouts of depression due to some failed relationship.

Bitasta had made several social media posts recently suggesting her state of mind which cops are examining.

On December 20 last year, the actor, in a post on her Facebook page, wrote, "U'll never feel my anguish!" In another such post a day before she had written, "Kosto pai kimba araam, Ki ese jay tor!" (How does it matter to you whether I'm in pain or relief).

According to the actor's family, Bitasta had started living separately from her parents after getting into a relationship with a person who was already married. Police suspect the actor was going through some trouble on the personal front.

"She was not a person to take such a drastic step. She must have been pushed to the brink by this person," claimed Bitasta's brother.

POLICE BAFFLED

What has baffled the police probing the case is that how was the actor's wrist slit if she had hung herself to death. They are now examining the visitor's register at the apartment complex where Bitasta used to live to see who were the people who visited the actor recently.
The model-turned actor had been trying to make a mark in the Bengali film industry and had worked in two films - one tiled 'Baghini' (a small-budget film based on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's life) and another called 'Banccha Elo Phire'.
