Bengaluru: Wasteful expenditure - unable to withstand harassment, concurrent auditor resigns

Bengaluru, Feb 10: An auditor, who brought to the notice of the officials of state rural development department that crores of rupees are going down the drain by way of wasteful expenditure, had to resign later, unable to withstand the harassment by departmental officials.

G Nijaguna Murthy, who is a retired accounts officer, had noticed during the concurrent audit that huge amounts were being unnecessarily spent under the guise of auditing. Murthy, who was serving since the last eight months as an external audit consultant in the department of chief economic adviser in rural development department, brought to the notice of higher officials about unwarranted expenses. He also wrote to the internal economic adviser on this subject.

On the basis of this letter, the internal economic adviser sent a note to the commissioner, drawing his attention towards wastage of Rs 13.86 crore. In the meanwhile, Murthy brought this to the notice of rural development minister too, it is said. Once this happened, Murthy began experiencing non-cooperative attitude from the department officials.

Frustrated, Nijaguna resigned from his job on February 3, it is learnt.
