Udupi: Day after mother's death at Kadiyali, son found dead in well

Udupi, Feb 17: A day after a woman died after falling from steps at Kadiyali here, her son was found to have committed suicide in the premises of his residence in Udyavar here on Friday February 17.

The deceased has been identified as Ujwal (30). His mother Rajashree died after she slipped and fell off a flight of steps in a commercial complex at Kadiyali. She was allegedly drunk at the time of the incident.

It is learnt that distressed at the news of his mother's death, Ujwal jumped into a well in the premises of his residence at Kedar in Bolje, Udyavar here late night on Thursday. The incident came to light on Friday.

Sources said that after Rajashree's death, the police asked Ujwal to come to the mortuary to identify and claim his mother's mortal remains. However, Ujwal who was shocked by the news, remained at home. The police then went to his house and brought him to the mortuary.

Sources also said that Ujwal was already taking medication for depression. The news of his mother's sudden death drove him to take the extreme step, it is said.

He is survived by two brothers, one of whom is working abroad. His father lives in Gadag and police are trying to contact him, sources said.

Udupi police have registered a case.

    Did police took permission from court or higher authority to take depressed son to mortuary to identify ? What measure taken by police to ensure his mental stability after mortuary visit who is already suffering from depression ? Police negligence caused another young mans death.

    RIP to both mother and son.

    So many of our youngsters suffer from depression. Proper love and care by the parents and guidance and counselling is the need of the hour.

    Youth are being neglected by parents. People busy with their own pursuits. This is the outcome.
