Chennai, Feb 21: After actress Bhavana came into the open with the details of harrowing experience she had gone through after a stage-managed accident involving people known to her, another actress, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, has shared her experience. Varalaxmi, a Tamil actress and daughter of Sarathkumar, who was an actor before entering politics, said that an executive of a television channel had once spoken to her improperly.
Departing from the practice of keeping such humiliations in the oblivion, Bhavana had come into the open and expressed her indignation at the way she was handled by her abductors. Since then she has been drawing support from all over. Varalaxmi, when sharing the feelings of Bhavana, also said that the talk of safety of women has turned a joke.
Varalaxmi has recalled in her tweet that a programme executive of a well-known television channel had asked her during discussions whether the two can meet outside the office. She recalls that when she questioned him why was such a meeting needed, the representative of the channel said it was 'for other things'. "I was shocked by his behaviour. I asked him to leave immediately. He left with a smile on his face," she explained in the tweet.

She guessed that people feel that actresses can be spoken to lightly just because their on-screen life appears to be glamorous. She added that the women have a right to live life the way they want to, and freedom to choose what they want. Noting that harassment of women in the form of groping, molestation, rape, etc that are highly disrespectful for the victim have been happening frequently, she spat out at people who treat women disrespectfully.
