Mangaluru: Lady dies on spot in accident near KPT; MLA Bava to the rescue

Mangaluru, Apr 12: A woman died in an accident near the busy KPT junction here on Wednesday April 12.

The deceased has been identified as Khamrunnisa, a resident of Gurpur.

She was riding pillion with Naufal (28), who was injured and has been admitted to hospital. Khamrunnisa died on the spot.

The accident took place when a lorry collided with a bike that Naufal was riding.

Setting an example, MLA Mohiuddin Bava who was on his way to attend a programme, stopped his vehicle and came to the rescue of the accident victims, coordinating with officials there. He also visited the hospital and made necessary arrangements for Naufal's treatment.

    A bypass road is the need of the hour. If a highway cuts through the city , heavy vehicles cause inumerable problems . Flyover underpass etc. are short term solutions. When you have a highway you cannot restrict speed to 30 km or 50 km as is done in mangalore. Morever the volume of traffic is increasing day by day and so is the size of vehicles. You will eventually have to increase the highway width to 120 metres which does not look feasible at all. Therefore a Bypass road for the highway can be the only alternative as is done for Hubli, Gadag, Belgaum Sakleshpur and other places in karnataka..

    A flyover near by AJ was not at all necessory, it was needed at kpt circle were air port traffic connects, authorities and political parties must look into the issue and sanction a over bridge on kpt circle.a poor lady has lost her life very sad,

    I agree with all the comment and do feel sorry for the deseased.
    Yet the foremost need in mangalore the traffic awareness. I am shocked to see people driving as wanted. The roundabouts here have no tracks. People change tracks without signals and not even bothered about the vehicle on the other tracks. Mainly heavy vehicles like trucks and buses are always on speed tracks and they are least botheted about small vehicles. No one gives way to the vehicle Ind the rounabouts (circle). They just enter blocking the circle. And foremost the traffic police are least bothered about these traffic signal and all seem to be unaware.

    specifically NH 66 all heavy trucks and bus in fast track they are not giving chance to others vehicle unfortunately small vehicles and cars are overtaking in wrong side so on the road signals must shown so drivers can aware of that signals and let them change their atttude

    If we check the driving tests, world over.. some countries' tests are difficult to pass... some countries tests are easier to pass to get a Driving Licence... There are some countries like PAKISTAN which gives licence with a namesake test... Now comes the Irony, we Indians are behind Pakistan.. India doesn't even require a proper test.. One Rs. 500/- (demonetised) was sufficient to give anyone a VALID INDIAN UNION Driving Licence... Please Mangaloreans.. think over it..

    I agree with all comments posted.
    Yes we are saying polices have to do .Politicians have to do.
    We had very good minister for road transport form central who was of no use at all. Sorry to say this.
    Now also we have a minister who belongs to Centrel Govt ,But Pity he is busy with protests & other activities.
    Rest of the ministers we have to are busy with inauguration .
    See the status of the thokuttu Flyover still not completed.
    Flyover near pumpwell starting the job was done fast ,But now its slow.
    They have installed so many signals near nanthoor circle but none working.Amount of money spent Someone has got is commission. Thts it.
    So wonder how many years will it take to finish Nanthoor & Flyover near KPT.
    Till how many accidents will happen God knows .
    Would just to have a underpass near Nanthoor Circle & near KPT .Think we can avoid ;lots of accidents.

    Hope the authorities concerned learn a lesson from this accident and take all necessary steps, viz., building of flyover/s, putting up speed-breakers, posting of sufficient traffic police personnel, strict implementation of traffic rules (including compulsory wearing of helmet by rider as well pillion rider), to prevent a recurrence of this type of sad, but avoidable loss of life/lives and injuries.

    May Khamrunnisa's soul rest in peace and may Naufal recover fast from his injuries. May all her near & dear ones get the strength to bear their irreparable loss.

    Very tragic and sad. These days there has been too many fatal bike accidents. May the soul of Khamrunissa rest in eternal peace and wish a speedy to Naufal a speedy recovery. Hats off to MLA Mohiuddin Bava who came to the rescue of the accident victims.

    Flyovers in Mangalore are a must. However, heavy vehicles should not be allowed to ply on the flyovers to avoid accidents.

    I agree with most of the Comments. A person traveling from thus route knows the reality.

    The Circle near KPT is an accident hazard zone. Even though you drive safely, disasters are bound to happen. That stretch itself is dangerous. Since it's NH we can expect a lot of heavy multi axle vehicles which move like Car. All are in a hurry to pass through the Circle before asked to apply Brakes/Stop. It's safe only when Traffic Police manage.

    It would have been better to have a flyover near KPT and Nanthoor rather on other areas which are not only useless but also makes a Service Road look like a residential dead end lane.

    Sad to even think that inspite of too many accidents, nothing is being done. I wish the Police could spend enough time here rather stopping Two Weelers in the City.

    Sad and a very tragic moment. May Almighty bless her soul and give enough strength to her Family

    Mr. Danish, Mangalore: I pass on this road and that spot of the accident daily and what I have observed is people hardly bother for safety of others and as well as theirs and in hurry to reach the destination. The police people who manage the KPT snd Nanthoor Circles have harrowing experience. Seeing is believing.

    Regarding the flyover at KPT and Nanthoor Circles, it was proposed when the National Highway widening work was proposed but the vested interests opposed it fearing loosing their land. Now whom you want to blame? Our Mangalorean people and opposition party people oppose everything for the sake of opposing. Even the Kaikamba-Jayashree Gate flyover was also opposed and the matter reached the Supreme Court. which cleared the fly over construction with heavy costs on the agitating members.
    So whom you blame now? Even God comes to this world, they will be beyond redemption. Such is the state of affairs. JAI HIND.

    Despite seeing the heavy Traffic at this place as also Nanthoor and Bendoorwell..there were no Flyovers built....One wonders whose ignorance was it....Its not too late...Flyovers should be built at these Three places.......MLA Bava needs to be commended for doing the good deed.

    Accidents like these are ever on the increase. It is of course yet to be established whether the Lorry driver was reckless or it was negligent driving by two wheeler rider.

    Still our bikers not understanding need of the Helmet for pillion rider as well.
    only bike rider wearing helmet will not help for the pillion rider.
    Hope City administration implement a strict rule as earlier it was in news.

    WHEN IN THE WORLD WILL THIS JUNCTION BE CLEARED. I HAVE AGED SEEING THIS JUNCTION AND EVERY MONTH THERE ARE ACCIDENTS. THE MOST DANGEROUS JUNCTION IN MANGALORE. THERE IS NO SIGNAL,NO SPEED BREAKERS AND 5 ROADS PASSING FROM THIS JUNCTION. WHY THERE IS NO SPEED BREAKER ON THE FAST LANE. POLICE STATION IS 800 METERS FROM THE JUNCTION AND DOES NOT TAKE ACTION WHEN THERE ARE BLOCKS. MORE AND MORE ACCIDENTS ARE GOING TO OCCUR IN THIS JUNCTION BECAUSE HEAVY VEHICLES AND MEDIUM VEHICLES CANNOT REDUCE THERE SPEED AS THIS IS CONNECTING THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY. ONLY TEMPORARY SOLUTION WOULD BE SPEED BREAKERS BECAUSE OUR SO CALLED 12TH DEVELOPING CITY IN THE WORLD CANNOT PROVIDE SIGNAL LIGHTS. AT LEAST THE SPEED BREAKERS CAN REDUCE MAJOR ACCIDENTS SUCH HAS DEATH OF A INNOCENT LIFE Khamrunnisa. May her soul rest in peace. SHE LOST HER LIFE BECAUSE OF OUR STATE NEGLIGENCE TO ADAPT SAFETY ROAD MEASURES.
