Nanjangud and Gundlupet by-polls: Congress trounces BJP in both constituencies

Daijiworld Media Network - Chamarajanagar

Chamarajanagar, Apr 13: Results of both Nanjangud and Gundlupet constituencies which went to bypolls on April 9 are out. BJP candidates were defeated in both these constituencies by their Congress rivals by a big margin.

In Nanjangud, political heavyweight and disgruntled former Congress minister and leader, V Srinivas Prasad, has been defeated by Kalale N Keshavamurthy of Congress by a margin of over 20,000 votes. The seat was earlier held by Srinivas Prasad, who left Congress after he was dropped from the state cabinet by the chief minister.

In Gundlupet constituency, although BJP candidate, Niranjan Kumar, gave tough fight to Congress candidate, Geetha Mahadev Prasad, Congress bagged the seat. The margin of victory is over 10,000 votes. Geetha was fielded from this constituency, after her husband and former minister, H S Mahadev Prasad, passed away in January.

For both Congress and BJP these constituencies had become a prestige issue, and scores of leaders big and small had jumped into the fray and canvassed for their respective parties.

KPCC President G Parameshwara said that it is a mandate for the achievements of the state government during the last two years. Polling for both the seats was held on April 9. The bypolls are considered as prestige battle for the two national parties. The results are seen as pointer to the crucial assembly elections to be held next year.

The by-poll was necessitated in Gundlupet after the death of cooperation minister H S Mahadev Prasad passed away in January. The by-poll for Nanjangud (Scheduled Caste) in Myusuru district was necessitated by the resignation of former Congress lawmaker and revenue minister Srinivas Prasad, who is re-contesting on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket.

Elaborate arrangements were made by the Mysuru and Chamarajanagar district administrations to ensure no untoward incidents take place. Tight security has been deployed, with Sec 144 imposed within a radius of 500 metres of the counting centres for a period of 24 hours.

Congress candidates in both constituencies maintained a steady lead right from the first round of counting.

Results (Votes)

Nanjangud

Congress - 86,212

BJP - 64,878

Gundlupet

Congress - 90,258

BJP - 79,381

People of Karnataka believe that INC focuses on real issues such as jobs , infrastructure etc whereas bj party only focuses on trivial issues such as food habits, moral policing etc.

Siddu led INC's governance is people friendly, pro-business, pro-poor, clean and efficient. Karnataka is the the highest job creators in the country with a share of 24 percent. The 'Bhagyas' have helped the poor workers, farmers, students and middle class.

People giving their own twists as if they won some world cup… LOL

But well, I can understand the inner frustration, that is bound to cheer. When a woman unable to bear child shows signs of pregnancy, it is bound to be a huge celebration. Isn’t it? watch out. And bjp is backed by urban voter traditionally? You want to give a twist and take some pride? Till 90s cong used to win handsomely.. and now not even 50 seats.. So in a way there are more uneducated folks now than in 90s? what a disaster..haha.

This semi-finals result is a wake-up call to both the Congress party, as well as the BJP.

The most important issue is that, the electorate are not the "Bakras" they are made out to be. Especially, there is no place for turncoats in today's democracy. The electorate can take a fitting lesson to any politician/s who take/s them for granted. Money power can influence to only a small extent.

At the end of the day, people want rapid development, jobs, maintenance of law & order, communal peace and accountability from the political & administrative machinery. Jai Ho to India's democracy.

The results has to be taken in its true spirits. This time it is good news for congress. Of course now they need not blame EVM. It works perfect. However this result is not an indicator to the coming assembly election. If the incumbent Government perform well in remaining tenure it can regain power. One thing is sure shifting parties after enjoying all the benefits from it to gain personal power may not be accepted all the time by people. People taught good lesson to Srinivasprasad for changing party after he has been dropped from ministry for poor performance. The opposition party was protesting for dropping him . Once it has been done same opposition offered him MLA seat . Another politician with whom I had great regards is SM Krishna who did spelendid job has a chief minister. However im disappointed that after enjoying all the position in congress as CM Governor and Union Minister he deserted the party. He says a age is a number .Remember that same Krishna was ridiculed by BJP when he was external Affairs minister for making a serious error in an International fora.

P.M. Modi is not a politician but a deity appeared as a politician; and so, who can and will defeat him? In Hinduism, there are a lot of deities, he is one of them. All his promises, like millions of jobs-billions in foreign invest in India-river cleaning-smart cities by the hundreds-millions of toilets so that none in India will use an open ground-Rs. 15 lakh/person of the black money-all the Chinese factories in India- $ 5 trillion GDP in the first term etc were already fulfilled. There is no cash in many of ATM machines, thus he will be making India soon as a cashless society-free from corruption. Real estate is plunging, thus housing will be affordable to all and everybody will get interest free loan to own their houses. So hard to believe the miracles under his leadership. Modi stopped all the foreign trips due to his heavy load of work in India. Why he and Arun Jaitly are shedding tears about the actions of the U.S. Government is curtailing the number of H-1 visa for the applicants from India, while he has created millions of high paying jobs?

He will be making the next great achievement, national beef ban, but exporting more beef abroad.

Siddu led INC is 1,001 times better than bjparty. His governance is pro-people, pro-business, pro-poor, clean and efficient. Karnataka along with T.N and Maharastra are the highest job creators in the country. The 'Bhagyas' are a way of helping the poor and downtrodden people as not all are rich enough to have a 'Cash Counting Machine' at home.

bhakts claim that 'Bhagyas' are bad in Karnataka, but those hypocrites start dancing when Yogi announced the same.

People of Karnataka have realized that Selfies, Bhashans and Immoral rowdyism will not fetch anything and hence prefer Siddu led INC.

You can call it as the anger of people for BJP's undemocratic policies implemented in its northern states.
'Installation' of Adithyanath as CM of UP and his subsequent polarizing policies was the beginning of BJP's downfall.

The BJP's have no faith in the EVM's of Karnataka as the EVM's are suppose to be tempered by Honourable Chief Minister Siddharamaiah..

Hence I urge election commission to conduct snap elections in ballot papers to both the constituencies so that the congress may sweep and wipe out the BJP's in both the constituencies in Karnataka.

HERE IS A FACT WHEN BJP DECLARED CM CANDIDATE BSY, IT COULD WIN BUT IN CASE OF CONGRESS IT COULD WIN ONLY BACAUSE NOT DECLARING CM CANDIDATE AS SIDDU.
FOR NEXT ELECTIONS THIS COULD NOT HAPPEN BECAUSE IT IS VERY MUCH CLEAR CM CANDIDATE IS SIDDU FOR NEXT TIME OTHERWISE CONGRESS HAS TO DECLARE CM CANDIDATE AND BOTH THE CASES LEAST CHANCES BECAUSE OF ORIGINAL AND DUPLICATE .

ITS TAMPERED ONLY ON UP ELECTIONS. IF ALL MACHINE IS TAMPERED AND BJP WINS IN MAJAORITY. THEN AFTER INQUIRY IF FOUND THAT EVM HAS TAMPERED BY BJP. THEN MODI HAS TO RESIGN TILL RE ELECTION.

    People,

If its 1-1 , then both Siddu and Yeddy save their faces...if its 2-0 for either,,, looser will loose big time politically....

Normally in by elections its easy for ruling party to use its political clout, money and muscle power to win elections..since they could focus all of their resources in a very small geographical area....

I heard betting is heavily in favour of CONgress 4:1....lets see what will happen in next hour...

Honestly speaking... both Siddu and Yeddy are not good choice for Karnataka...unfortunately people have to choose between worse and worst!!!...

Langoorji...If it is 2-00 will send strong signal to central govt about peoples resentment for NDAs anti people polices more particularly towards middle class who are tax payers. This section has always been attacked by way of increased sales,CAT,Service taxes, non increase of IT slab etc.,Every person who is striving to have his own flat/house is paying nearly 1.5 lakh extra due to increased service tax rate.Even swatch Bharath abiyaan tax is in reality burden on common people by charging tax. This popular event of NDA govt is funds generating method rather than progressive project.High price rise of daily essentials is another major cause for BJPs set back. Its anti stance towards corruption is also party based one.ED raids are being conducted only for non BJPians and for others.People can be fooled once but not always.BJP should learn lesson from results of bye election before thinking of 2019 general elections.

    What a joke.,,
A by election for 2 seats, in a traditional cong bastion. it is not state election.. it is not that bjp is loosing everywhere.. moreover it is clear from the beginning that it is tough fight and cong is likely to retain the seats.

People have a habit of making a mountain out of a molehill.. they may even blame Trump's bombing of Syria for this loss..LOL

    Rajesh, Udupi "What a joke.,,"

It sadly seems that consequences on middle class Indians of various Policies adopted by the BJP as expressed by KRPrabhu, Mangalore/Bangalore don't affect you.

Either you are not middle class or you don't pay taxes or worst still you are just existing!

ha ha. While I don't need to prove my existence, let me put in few facts to you.. I am a middle class indian paying tax for over 20 years, with not a penny of black money!

And my priorities are my nation and not any political party!

Today I don't think any other party come close to BJP in terms of nation building, you like it or not. any policy which directs to development will have some pain and we have to bare it. tell me which essential like rice daal, milk, petrol is costly compare to what is was in 2012-13? it is almost the same or lower. and people worried on swatch bharat tax, are they not worried when our tax money is spent on some community pilgrimage? one party pampers the community for decades from our own tax money, you dont have a problem.. another party wants to use tax money for right cause, and you have a problem? then it is hypocrisy dear.. I cannot help such biased minds. I am not certifying any party, but at least current central govt is on a fairly right path..

Instead of making blanket statements on the central government’s so called achievements, support your claims with facts and figures:
    - When you compare petrol prices, compare the prices of crude oil as well which was 110$ 4 years ago and after touching rock bottom of 20$ now it’s 52$ which is still less than half of what it was when this government came to power. And the petrol diesel prices? All one can say is that they have enabled to fill the coffers of private refiners in our country!
    - Show a single essential commodity of which price has come down.
    - Unemployment rate has hit an all time high
    - In spite of tall claims like unprecedented surgical strikes, the year 2016 has recorded an highest number of our defense causalities since 2008 which is 64.
    - Value INR was 57.8 in May 2014, after touching a 67.9. it has come down to 64.4 now ( thanks to Trump)
    - The only achievement of demonetization has been writing off of lacks of crores of bad debts of willful defaulters and NPAs

    1. Unlike in the past we have a government.. we have a PM.. that is a big diference.. LOL
    2. UPA imported at $110 and gave you at rs50 is an achievement? only if they bother to pay for importing. NO. it is paid now with interest by current govt for Iran alone. Someone with basic mathematics can understand whether we were benefited or tax payers were cheated.
    3. Prices go up and does not come down. People who were exaggerating that the price today is 300% needs to be told that it is not even 10-20%. Why exaggerating ?
    4. there were people who predicted civil war the moment modi came to power.. well, such desperation

It is up to the people to understand. not my job to push any agenda. there is a govt and it is better than the previous one. far better.. but some people want to say just opporiste.
