Udupi, Apr 16: Two sisters, who had fled their respective homes on the pretext of having been reprimanded by their parents, were rescued from a lodge at Malpe on Saturday April 15. It transpires that the young ladies were lured by a youth who offered them lucrative jobs.

Both the rescued teenagers aged 18 are from Karkala. It is gathered that they had exchanged information with a young man from Gadag whom they knew through Facebook , about the fact that the elders in the family were always after them and often chided them. The young man reportedly told the two girls to leave their home and come to Gadag, duly holding out the offer of jobs for them on arrival. The girls left their home in a scooty belonging to the family, and reached here. As fuel in the two-wheeler got exhausted by the time they reached the town, they abandoned the vehicle and went to Malpe where they hired a room in a lodge.

The girls then got in contact with a friend from Padubidri explaining to him their predicament about their inability to bear the harassment of the family. They told to him that they want to go to Gadag to work there, duly requesting him to arrange for vehicle to reach there. This young man got in contact with youth Congress leader, Vishwas Ameen, and conveyed to him this information. Vishwas then went to the lodge accompanied by friends, convinced the girls to change their minds, and contacted their family. He then arranged to send them back to their home.

Vishwas, who counselled with the girls, told them that there is a possibility of them becoming victims of human trafficking at Gadag and advised them to live in the safe environs of their homes, duly following the guidance of the parents. Out of the two sisters, one is adopted, it is gathered.

It is said that the parents had lodged missing complaint in Karkala police station about the girls.
