Mangaluru, May 3: They say, when it rains in Mangaluru, it pours. And pour it did, as sudden pre-monsoon showers bathed the city on Tuesday May 2, bringing much-needed respite, albeit temporary, from the sweltering heat.
Though it was long awaited, what with the blisterning summer heat giving tough time to the citizens, when the rain did come, most people were caught unawares.
The rains brought with them the fresh fragrance of the earth. The lightning and thunder that accompanied the downpour literally added 'spark' to the evening.
Soon after it started raining, power cut was reported at several places.
Rainfall was also reported in other parts of the district.
15-year-old boy dies
The rains brought tragedy too, as a 15-year-old boy in Moodbidri near here lost his life after being hit by lightning.
The deceased has been identified as Lavalesh, son of Gummanna Poojary, a resident of Panapila.
Lavalesh was a student of 10th standard at Aliyoor government high school.
It is said that he was hit by lightning while in sleep, and died on the spot.
