Kundapur, May 5: A young student lost his life while he tried to save a friend from drowning in Kumbaramakki stream at Shadegundi near Shankaranarayana on Friday, May 5.

Amogha Shetty (19,) son of Subbanna Shetty from Mudubage, is the person deceased.

Amogha Shetty had just finished his second PUC at Mother Theresa School at Shankaranarayana. Two days back he had appeared for CET exams. On Friday afternoon, a group of eight boys went to have bath in the Kumbaramakki stream. When all other boys ventured into the stream to have bath, Amogha sat on the banks as he did not know how to swim.

When suddenly one of the boys cried for help, his friends tried to rescue him. At that time, Amogha thought that his help was also needed as others were finding it hard. Accordingly he jumped into the stream. When Amogha lost his life as he did not know how to swim, his friend who was in danger swam back to the banks with help.

Amogha’s father is a contractor. His wife had died some years back due to illness. Amogha’s other brother studies in college. Amogha stayed at his uncle’s house for education purpose.

    RIP to the young boy!

What baffles me most is that there were 6 other boys helping Amogha's friend who was in trouble.

Couldn't some of them come to Amogha's rescue?

Imagine Amogha being drawn into the perilous water when in the first place he opted to sit back on the bank and watch his friends swim as he did not want to risk his life as he did not know to swim.

It is very unfortunate that a father lost his 19-year-son in this tragic drowning accident. May the soul of Amogha rest in eternal peace. This is a lesson to others that never ever try to help a drowning person when you don't know how to swim.
