Bengaluru: No protection for cow vigilante groups in state, says Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, May 5 (PTI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has warned that strict action would be taken against those who attempt to disrupt social harmony in the state in the name of cow protection.

He said the state's prevention of cow slaughter act does not grant any protection to 'gau rakshaks' or vigilante groups.

The chief minister was reacting to media reports that the state government had defended the law protecting 'gau rakshaks', before the Supreme Court at a time when the Congress was accusing the BJP of encouraging activities of such groups.

"K'taka Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act 1964 grants no protection to 'gau rakshaks' or any vigilante groups who take law into their own hands," Siddaramaiah said in a tweet.

"Our Govt in K'taka has never supported any kind of vigilantism. Misrepresentation of facts by certain media houses is unfortunate," he said.

As per the Supreme Court's directions, Karnataka has submitted a counter affidavit, following a PIL seeking direction to hold Section 15 of the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964, unconstitutional.

"Laws here are backed by strong enforcement mechanism. Strict action wil be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt social harmony in K’taka," Siddaramaiah said in the tweet.

    Those who protect may not be rearing the cows .

    First so called protectors of cow start rearing cows at their home . Cow is a sacred animal for most of Hindus in our country so we have to respect their sentiments.

    However , the people who eat the male cow ox cannot be questioned simply because of the fact that ox is no longer used for agriculture purpose. The agriculture economic point of Ox can be used for meat .

    The vigilant group can inform the police if there is cow theft but cannot take law into their hands. In the name of cow protection human beings are being murdered which is a dangerous trend.

    If cruelty for animal is the pretext for protection of cow then same logic must be applied for all animals and birds like goat sheep lamb chicken pig etc. similarly in coastal district people depend upon sea food for eating and livelihood.

    if the cow theft from hut is made legalised then there is no question of cow protection group is required. some people indirectly supporting the the cow theft. don't protect cow theft groups.

    first give protection to the people. second one is don't give protection to the cow stealing group & cow protection group. don't give compensation of 20 lakhs to anybody incase they lost their life during cow theft.

    All the state governments in India should take interest in increasing cattle population and issue cattle slaughter permits to each Taluks.

    Presently there are very scanty cattle slaughter permits issued to slaughter houses. Due to this effect illegal cattle slaughters are increased.

    With the increase of cattle population and increase of permit houses to slaughter houses skyrocketing of beef prices in India will drop drastically and the beef consumers will have plenty of beef and inflation can be contained.

    To a certain extent drought hit states farmers may over come financially.

    The farmers can sustain their families to a certain extent.

    Indian government should stop exporting beef to foreigners and the Central government should discharge beef inside India and make beef available to Indian Nationals inside India.

    WHY WE INDIAN NATIONAL CONSUMERS ARE DEPRIVED OF BEEF BUT ONLY TO FOREIGN NATIONALS PLENTY OF BEEF IS MADE AVAILABLE.

    LASTLY, THE OUTFIT AND OUTLAW COW VIGILANTES SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED BY THE CITIZENS AND HAND OVER THEM TO THE POLICE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT.

    India's cattle population is 1/3 of the cattle population of the world around 333 million, the largest in the world ahead of Brazil. How to feed these holy cows? They will be encroaching the neighbor's property and will create bloodshed in between the neighbors. The wandering cows in the cities, traffic jam-road rage and bloodshed will be the final outcome yet to be faced with in big numbers all across India. Where is Modi's millions of job creation? Cow vigilante job (CV like CA) is the biggest job creation of the special gift of God to India.

    When it comes law and order situation Congress in Karnataka has performed worst. Though in power with absolute majority 'soft communal' approach should be shun away to give inclusive policy should be adopted.
    Anti superstition bill in similar way pushed under the carpet even after many intellectual murders. In other hand 'communal violence bill' is never tabled.
    Congress will be responsible for its own downfall. It's tolerant approach against 'moral police' and 'cow vigilantes' has only emboldened them to attack more.
    In written reply to Supreme court Congress government has defended 'Cow vigilantes'. Whereas the approach should be Mahatama Gandhi way of 'Gau Seva'.
    In Karnataka Congress in ruling but BJP in power.

    COW vigilanate group should be duly registered and any sick cows /old cows they should be handed over . Let them take care if that's what they want to do ....Good and healthy cows are always taken care for their milk so no vigilant needed

    sir siddaramaihji, one simple question when prevention cow slaughter act was exiting since 1964. how many goons have been arrested and punished under this act so far. why only now shouting in the press we will take strict action for people who disrupt social harmony.still now we read in news these goons are very active either with support of some politicians or with help govt. administration and police.
