Udupi, May 21: This is the state of a ward within city limits. The problem exists here since more than a decade. But no solution has been found so far. The predicament of people has become unexplainable.

Kodankoor ward with the corporation administration here is very close to the National Highway. Yet it lacks road and other basic necessities.

Murali Suvarna Janaki couple has been staying here with their two children for the last twenty years. They have been complaining to the officials their plight periodically.

The problem is not confined to the house of Murali Suvarna alone. Sicknesses such as malaria and dengue are common among the houses in the vicinity. Clean water used to once flow in the stream towards Kalmady. However due to the indifference of the corporation, waste water from the area was allowed to flow in the stream. That made the stream dirty, but the water was flowing.

Now the water does not flow due to thrash and shrubs on the way and it has remained stagnant. As chemical and waste water have combined in the drain, there is a danger of chemical reaction like the one in Bellandur in Bengaluru.

As the problem has cropped up before the monsoon, it is likely to be worse during the rainy season.

The local corporator too should try to solve the problem. The people also should show civic sense without throwing thrash on the roadside.
