Kasargod, May 31: A gang which clicked photographs of a man in the company of a lady, later tried to blackmail him into parting with money by using these photographs. After finding that the man was reluctant to meet their demand for additional money, the gang tried to rob him.

When he resisted this attempt, it tried to kill him by smothering him. Angered by the fact that his neighbour intervened and saved the man facing danger, the gang intercepted his motor bike two days later and attacked him.

This chain of incidents happened in Kubanoor near Kumble. The victim has been identified as Abubakker (39), residing near the village office at Pachchambala in Bandyodu, Kubanoor. An injured Abubakker stands admitted into the district cooperative hospital at Kumble. Abubakker stated in a complaint that a gang of six moving in three motor bikes had attacked him.

A lady was seen seeking alms in a house located next to Abubakker's home at Pachchambala on Saturday. The owner of that particular house was alone at the time. When the man entered the house to bring money to give to the lady, the woman too reportedly entered the house.

A gang that was hiding nearby suddenly rushed into the house, photographed the house owner in the company of the lady, and then threatened him to cough up Rs 25,000 by blackmailing him. The owner obliged. The gang also took away the cellphone of the wife of the house owner.

Later, the gang placed a fresh demand for additional payment of Rs 50,000 but the man refused to oblige. The gang then tried to kill him by tightening grip around his neck. Abubakker went to the rescue of the person facing peril to his life.

Because of this grouse, the gang intercepted Abubakker when he was moving on his motor bike on Monday May 29 and beat him up, it is gathered.

The police, who have registered a case based on the complaint, are investigating.
