Kasargod, Jun 5: Lightning struck Kasargod Government College here on Monday June 5, causing a whopping loss of nearly Rs 40 lac.

Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Kasargod on Monday evening. A thunderous strike of the lightning sparked fire in the computer lab of the college.

The fire soon spread and engulfed the entire lab, reducing 40 computers, UPS, batteries and other equipment to ashes.

Even the ceiling fans were found burnt and fallen on the floor.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the incident took place after college hours when students and most of the staff had left the premises.

On receiving information from people who noticed the flames, the fire brigade arrived at the spot, but by then the computer lab was completely charred.

After much efforts that lasted several hours, the fire personnel finally managed to douse the flames and prevented it from spreading further.
