Mangaluru, Jun 7: The personnel manning the international airport here handed over a person to Bajpe police station after finding that he was in possession of five live bullets. He had come to the airport to travel to New Delhi.

The identity of the arrested passenger has been given as Muhammed Shafeeq, a resident of Kasargod. Shafeeq was set to fly to New Delhi by a Jet Airways flight scheduled to leave the airport on Tuesday June 6 morning, at around 6.35 am. During his screening, on duty staff, Saurabh Kumar, found that five live bullets were kept inside the bag belonging to Shafeeq.

When confronted, Shafeeq explained that his father has a gun in his name and that the licence was given for renewal at Goa in 2016. By mistake, the bag belonging to the father was carried by the son, it was stated.

Therefore, he was handed over to the personnel of Bajpe police station for investigation. Bajpe police sub-inspector said that the arrested passenger was produced in court and then released on bail.

Shafeeq had arrived at the international airport here along with family members to travel to New Delhi and then to China for treatment of Muhammed Shafeeq's father there. Shafeeq's father possesses licence to carry pistol and live bullets. As it was found that father's luggage was carried by Shafeeq by oversight, FIR for primary inquiry was registered. On the basis of explanation provided, the court released Shafeeq on bail. The police also found that the concerned had no involvement with any terrorist or criminal activities in the past.

Nowadays , in these matters no one is taking any chances with such items, though it could have been a genuine mix up at his home and a slight negligence as well. Bullets alone are of no use unless the weapon is also there ! But no one will buy such arguments .

If he had to go to China or Pakistan with that bag, he would have landed straight in to Jail withot bail. Because of Indian security, he survived. Sometimes these things happen for Good and Gods grace.
