Kuwait, Apr 13:  Mangalorean expatriates spread all over the Gulf states  will  have a unique opportunity to participate in a reality show organized by   'Gulf Voice Mangalore'.

The show will take place between October 2 and October 17.

The main organisers Lawrence Pinto and Louis Rodrigues of Kuwait have officially announced the event and released complete details through  daijiworld.com

Respective local organizers will release  further details soon through media announcements.

Common rules and regulation will apply for all the events

Rules and Regulations (To be applied to all participants)


1 – Conditions of entry

The competition is open to singers of Mangalore origin with residence in any of the GCC countries born on or before 15th October 1990.  Participant should hold valid country (GCC residing) residence.  Visit visa holders are not entitled for the competition.

2 – Format of the Competition

The competition is in three stages:
- A preliminary round auditioned anonymously by a local preliminary judging panel of respective country.
- Semi-finalists present the song before an audience and the Juries in respective country.
- Finalists present song before an audience and the Juries in Kuwait, who then make their final decision.
 
3 – Prizes

First prize:  IRs. 1,00,000 (Indian Rupees One Lakh only)
Second prize:  IRs. 50,000 (Indian Rupees Fifty Thousand only)
Third prize:  IRs. 25,000 (Indian Rupees Twenty Five Thousand only)
The decisions of the jury are final and incontestable.
The prizes will be awarded at the end of the final.

4 – Applications

Candidates must send, to the address given on the official entry form, to arrive no later than 30th April 2008 with the following
- Application form duly filled in (in capital letters or typewritten)
- Copy of the passport or identity card as a proof of residence and age.
- A nominal payment fixed by local organizers as registration fee at their respective countries.
- 2 recent photographs of good quality, free of rights (or CD ROM - 300 dpi)
- A complete CV
- short (100-150 words) typewritten biography (studies, teachers, prizes, performances) in English

The Competition will only consider applications submitted with all requested supporting material.  Applications can be filled and submitted personally, by fax, email or through online form of www.daijiworld.com.

5 – Program / Schedule

The competition is dedicated to Konkani Solo songs only from the released Mangalorean albums (DVD/CD/Cassette).  Religious hymns are not allowed.  Any songs which devalues the moral or any kind of attack on religion, person or country is not permitted.

a) Pre selection

Candidates will be selected by a panel of qualified judges. Their decision will be communicated to each candidate by 15th May 2008.  Selected applicants will receive an official invitation specifying date, time and venue in order to register personally in respective country of origin.  The candidates confirm that they are free of all professional obligations during the competition and that they can travel and stay in Kuwait for the grand Finale.

b) Selection

A preliminary drawing of lots will determine the order in which candidates will perform during the preliminary rounds which will be held in the respective country of residence.  Only box guitar allowed for audition/preliminary rounds. No electronic instruments allowed.  No sequence/minus track allowed for any rounds.  All songs to be sung in Konkani and from memory.  The song should not cross 6 minutes including music.   Music for semi-finals and finals will be provided by the organizers for which professional musicians will be arriving from Mangalore.

The local juries of respective countries will select at most 12 semifinalists on the basis of the performance. The names of the semifinalists will be made known (for example by being posted on the Competition’s/sponsored media website) before the schedule of the semifinals. If selected for semi-finals, the participant should give the organizers the names of five Mangalorean Konkani songs (only from the released albums) and the name of the album/composer of the song. The semi-final judges will ask the semi-finalist to sing one of these five songs. If the semi-finalist is chosen for finals then too he/she will be asked to sing one of the songs which were provided by him/her. 

The semifinal is open for the public at the country of residence of competitors.  The two each winners from each country will be selected for Grand Finale.  The final rounds are open to the public and will be held in Kuwait.  If selected for semi-finals, the participant should only compete for the semi-finals if he/she is ready to travel to Kuwait for the Grand finale.

C) Schedules:

Preliminary rounds will be done in respective country of origin and 12 each semifinalist will be selected from all countries.  The schedule for semifinals and Grand Finale is as follows.
October 2, 2008: Semifinal in Muscat
October 3, 2008: Semifinal in Dubai
October 9, 2008: Semifinal in Bahrain
October 10, 2008: Semifinal in Qatar
October 16, 2008: Semifinal in Kuwait
October 17, 2008: Grand finale in Kuwait.

7 – Judging Criteria

The Judges will take into account the special characteristics of Song Recital as an artistic partnership between singer and musician and will consider:

- Understanding of the genre
- Choice of material
- Musicianship (Rhythm and control over the song)
- Technical competence (Clarity of words, pitch quality and voice culture)
- Rapport with the audience
- Versatility in program (expression and general presentation).
Each participant will be encouraged with a suggestion by the juries after the performance.

8 – Transport, accommodation, publicity, insurances

a) Transport – accommodation

- The Grand Finale Competitors will be provided with Visa, accommodation and economy air ticket (only from the country of residence). 
- Expenses are not taken in charge if the candidates arrive earlier or remain after the time scheduled by the organizers.
- Travel and accommodation for personal accompanists or relatives will not be taken in charge.

b) Publicity

The Competition reserves the right without payment of fees to record, televise, film, video, broadcast or photograph all stages of the competition for media or archive purposes as well as to produce a publicity CD or DVD of all stages of the competition.

The Competition reserves the right to use photos and biographies of the candidates and is responsible for the conception of all communication media.

c) Insurance

The selected candidates have responsibility to contract a health and accident insurance policy for the duration of their stay in Kuwait.  It is not a must for the competition.

9 – Cancellation

Should the competition be cancelled because of war, civil or political disturbance, epidemy, fire, national mourning, strikes, the Competition would not be held responsible and would be cleared of all expenses.
The candidates accept the present rules.

10 – GENERAL
 
The organizers reserve the right to refuse any entry and return the entry fee without giving reasons. The jury has the right to stop any candidate’s performance at any stage of the competition. Prizes are awarded, and may be withheld, at the jury’s sole discretion. The jury’s decisions are final. The organizers reserve the right to record or broadcast any part of the semifinal or final without payment to the participants. Organizers cannot accept liability for any loss or injury arising in connection with any candidate’s participation in the Competition howsoever caused. The details given herein are correct at the time of going to press but the organizers reserve the right to alter the arrangements as occasion demands.
