Bengaluru, Jun 20: A city court has sentenced state labour minister, Santosh Lad, to five months imprisonment in a cheque bounce case.

The court ordered the minister to pay a total sum of Rs 7.25 crore to the petitioner which includes principal amount of Rs 4.20 crore and penalty. The order was passed by the court on Monday June 19.

Sandalwood producer, Rockline Venkatesh, had filed a case against the minister after a cheque for Rs 4.20 crore issued in his faovur by Lad was returned unpaid for want of funds. However, the verdict has been kept in abeyance for a month at the request of the defendant.

For a hefty amount of Rs.7.25 crores why only 5 months imprisionment ? Our laws needs to be amended and 5 years imprisionment be awarded to Lad.

All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law.

Such prominent people don't hesitate to do such acts, but don't understand why dormant for a month upon request of defendant?

Since he goes to higher court...let us see how this Govt will take action against him!!! Because as per code-of-conduct for any elected representative (even for Professional like CA or Doctors too) they can't continue in their Position if they are convicted for more than 3 months imprisonment!!!
