Not much comparison between my mother and me: Nishka Lulla

New Delhi, June 30 (IANS): Fashion designer Nishka Lulla says her work doesnt get compared to that of her mother and National Award winning designer Neeta Lulla.

Since her mother has already established a name for herself, Nishka says the challenge is to be different.

"There isn't much comparison between my mother and me because our style sensibilities are totally different. Being the daughter of a celebrated designer, you are expected to match up to that level of your mother being from the same field," Nishka told IANS.

"The challenge is to be different and show your individuality in your designs," she added.

Nishka collaborated with makers of bindass' show "Girl In The City Chapter 2". The show features Mithila Palkar and Rajat Barmecha. According to the makers, the show has garnered over 34 million views -- through Facebook, YouTube.

Nishka says she related to the show because it "was about women who are striving to be different and unique and make their own mark".

She added: "The team at bindass approached me for their show for which they were hosting a #ChalUdteHai contest for young women dreamers and achievers across the country. They wanted me to design outfits for these ambitious women to celebrate their dreams, aspirations and passion and thought I was a great fit."

"I thought it's a great idea because my label is for women who are young and confident as well."

Talking about fashion trends that will make it big in 2017, Nishka, whose forte is pret, said: "I would say statement earrings, rainbow stripes. The '80s glam look is in now, with ruffles and puffed sleeves. It's a very bold but feminine look but that's what I love. The trend of athleisure, sporty, comfy separates is also really in for 2017 as well."
