Mangaluru, Jul 6: Demanding a loan waiver for farmers from the Central government, Youth Congress from Mangaluru South constituency unit organised a rally in front of State Bank of India Port Branch e on Thursday, July 6.
Addressing the protesters, Mithun Rai, president district Youth Congress said "Karnataka state government under the leadership of Siddaramaiah has already waived the loans of farmers in state. By doing this Siddaramaiah has shown that he is farmers’ best friend and protector. He has never cheated the farmers. In fact he has saved them from burdens by implementing various programmes for them. But the Central government is not showing any signs of loan waiving,”
“Modi government is only supporting to corporate world. He is not interested at all in listening to the problems of farmers. He has forgotten the promises he made during election time. He cheated the farmers. So we are going to hold strong protests against him and his government with the support of farmers," Rai added.
“Youth Congress has decided to come on streets to support farmers and we will not take rest until the loans of farmers in the nationalised banks are waived by the Central government," he informed.
In his speech, Praveen Chandra Alva, corporator and Youth Congress leader from Mangaluru South constituency said "Farmers are happy with Siddaramaiah led Congress government. State government has always engaged with the implementing farmer friendly programmes. But Narendra Modi’s government is making policies without considering
the interest of farmers. Farmers are committing suicides in the country. Banks are busy with seizing properties of farmers. Demonetisation and GST have made farmers’ and common people’s lives miserable. We cannot remain mute spectators.”
Mangaluru South constituency Youth Congress president Meryl Rego said "This protest is just an example of planned future protests. We will organise mass protests with the support of farmers in the future. We demand that the central government should waive the loans of farmers immediately.”
Leaders Salim, Balakrishna Shetty also addressed the gathering.
