Bengaluru, Jul 6: Former Chief Minister and State JD(S) President H D Kumaraswamy has announced plans for organising peace march in coastal Dakshina Kannada district soon in view of the recent spate of communal incidents.
Addressing the State JD(S) Core Committee meeting in Bengaluru on Thursday, Kumaraswamy said the party would be organizing a series of conventions as part of the party's preparations for next year's assembly polls.
While announcing that the party would hold a convention every month in different districts as part of the preparations for the next year’s assembly polls, he did not indicate any firm date for the peace march in Dakshina Kannada.
A farmers’ convention would be held in Bijapur, minorities’ convention in Raichur, women's convention in Bengaluru, OBC convention in Mysuru, and SC/ST convention in Tumakuru, Kumaraswamy said.
The JD(S) leader said recent inductee H Vishwanath had been made in-charge of party's backward class wing.
He said the party would select candidates and announce their names well in advance to enable them to effectively campaign.
"We have good candidates for every constituency," he said.
On the issue of fielding his wife, Anitha Kumaraswamy from Channapattana, the JD(S) chief said there was huge pressure from party cadres to fielding her.
"But the party has taken no decision on the issue," he said.
The JD(S) is gearing up for the 2018 assembly poll battle and will fight on its own, he said.
