Dubai: Bearys' Contirbution to Society Lauded at 'Chammana 2008'

Dubai, Apr 26: Bearys Cultural Forum under the auspices of the Indian Islamic Centre, Dubai conducted the annual mega event 'Chammana 2008' at the Radisson Hotel SAS, (Great Zabeel Ball Room) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Friday April 25.
 
'Beary' is a Muslim community originating from the coastal parts of the state of Karnataka in India. Bearys Cultural Form (BCF) was formed in the United Arab Emirates under the auspices of Dubai Indian Islamic Centre, UAE.  BCF's main objective is to promote, educate and create social, cultural and educational awareness amongst the Bearys in the UAE and India. The BCF regularly conducts cultural, sports, talent search, educational activities, Iftar party, etc.  BCF also provides educational scholarships to the Beary students for pursuing their higher studies in the field of medicines, engineering etc.

The Chammana 2008 was presided over by Dr B K Yusuf, and the chief guest of honour was Venu Rajamony, consul general of India, Dubai.  Zafarullah Khan, the chief advisor of BCF and managing director of Zain International Group of Hotels and Prince Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy, descendent of the Mughal emperor Bahadur Shazh Zafar was our privileged guest of honor.
 
Ahmed Kasim was conferred the high-ranking 'Star of Bearys International Award 2008' for his outstanding contribution to social welfare of the bearys in India and abroad specially towards eradication of dowry system in Karnataka amongst Bearys.

Dr B K Yusuf is the director of the MEPHA, Switzerland and has been the president of the Bearys Cultural Forum in UAE since its inception. Dr B K Yusuf has contributed to the welfare of the bearys at all points of time. In recognition of his service he was conferred the Special Award of Honor, 2008.  Similarly, Zafarullah Khan, chief advisor of BCF and managing director of Zain International Hotel has been conferred the Man of the Year Award - 2008 for his incessant philanthropist activities. Dr B R Shetty was conferred the 'Lifetime Achievement Award – 2008'  for his achievements in the United Arab Emirates.
 
All the executive members were applauded for their contributions to the Bearys and the society.
 
More than 1000 people attended the function. The morning session of Chammna 2008 included "Skills Development Programme'. A lecture on 'Presentation Skills for an Oustanding Official" was delivered by Prof Dr Paulson Mathew Chunkapura, president of Affiliate London College Group.  A lecture on 'Stress and Time Management' was delivered by Prof Dr Kaup Mohamed, the dean of Affiliate London College Group.

The event, which began at 3 pm included fancy dress competition, group dances, solo dances, musical concerts, mono acting, drama, songs, etc. Venu Rajamony addressed the gathering and was happy to find that BCF is supporting poor beary students for education by providing necessary scholarship.  All the privileged guests of honour delivered enlightening speeches during Chammana 2008. The event ended with a buffet dinner to all the people who attended the function.
