Mangaluru, Jul 14: "From past several days the district has been witnessing communal clashes akin to guerrilla type of activities. For this reason, we organized a peace meet to take measures to restore peace and harmony in the district, in which several elected representatives and leaders took part," said district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai.

Addressing a press meet at the DC's office here on Thursday July 14, Rai said, "Several suggestions came up during the peace meet. We will look into the suggestions and also hold peace meetings every two months in the district.

"After Sec 144 is revoked we will organise a peace rally in which religious leaders and students will take part. To bring the situation under control, chief minister Siddaramaiah has ordered to bring changes in the police department. We will take neccesaary and stringent action against the offenders in order to maintain peace in the district," Rai said.

"We will give all freedom to the police department to investigate and will not interfere in their investigation," he added, responding to BJP's allegations that the Congress was interfering in police affairs.

"The police solved the Karthik Raj murder case, and now police have revealed that they have got clues to RSS worker Sharath's murder. I am confident the accused will soon be apprehended.

"Senior officials and CID officers are in the city to reveiw the recent incidents and will take all concrete measures possible," he said.

When asked about the alleged delay in announcing Sharath's death, U T Khader said,"This is nothing but a blind allegation. I had been to the hospital to know about his health condition. BJP booth leader himself is a member of the hospital administration, so is he not aware of all this? He should have come forward and informed about Sharath's death."

Speaking about BJP boycotting the peace meet he said,"This has proved that BJP does not want peace in the district and using the issue for political gain."

MLA Abhayachandra Jain, MLA Shakuntala Shetty, mayor Kavitha Sanil and others were present.
