Bengaluru: Kiran Bedi hails Roopa, says country needs more of her kind

Bengaluru, Jul 15 (DHNS): Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Friday praised the “courage” of a senior Karnataka police officer who said AIADMK (Amma) chief V K Sasikala was getting preferential treatment in Bengaluru central prison.

“We need more officers of the kind of D Roopa, theDIG (Prisons) of Karnataka, to inspire younger generation to be like her,” Bedi, herself a former IPS officer, tweeted.

Such officers were not easy to find these days. “Those who have the courage to speak and write out the truth as they see knowing well that they may not get support from senior quarters,” she said.

The DIG also said there was suspicion that senior jail officials had accepted Rs 2 crore as a bribe to facilitate special facilities for Sasikala, prompting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to order a high-level probe on Thursday. Roopa made the allegations in a report to her superior, DGP (Prisons) H S Sathyanarayana Rao.

Bedi, credited with ushering in jail reforms during her career, asked Roopa to “keep going strong wherever you are posted as the country needs you. You will inspire younger generation to be like you...”

The Lt Governor said in such a situation, good leadership welcomes reporting or feedback and makes a joint field visit. “This helps improve matters.”

In her four-page report after visiting the central prison on July 10, Roopa said a special kitchen was functioning in the jail for Sasikala, a convict in a corruption case, in violation of rules. Noting that these allegations were also against the DGP, she asked Rao to look into them and take “merciless” disciplinary action against “erroneous officials”. Rao has termed Roopa’s charges against him “absolutely false, baseless and wild” and said he would take legal recourse against his junior.

    Roopa,

I guess being in charge of State Traffic, I suggest make all MLAs and Ministers including CM to follow the traffic rules. Let them wait as common people, as if they going to act immediately on any issue. If emergency? we are all connected digitally all over, why hurry? He/She can work from his Vanity Luxury Car or Let him put extra hours/ Let him cut his trips on inaugurations (fact is somebodies project and hard work, these ministers are inaugural puppets). At least Ambulances will move or somebodies death note will come on time.

Effect of that you are indirectly contributing for more fly overs, better roads etc.

Holding a Constitutional position Ms Kiran Bedi should be restrained and should not resort to such publicity stunts. Kiran Bedi feels she is a Policewoman in charge of Moral Policing. By making such irresponsible statements when the allegation made by Ms Roopa is yet to be proved, Kiran Bedi is encouraging indiscipline among the disciplined force - The Police. The President of India should restrain such Governors rushing to the Press meddling in the internal affairs of a neighbouring State Government, or in the alternative withdraw his pleasure in the continuance of Governors like Kiran Bedi.

Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi seems to be selective in her outrage.

In BJP ruled Uttar Pradesh lady officer in standing up to the bullying of BJP leaders in Uttar Pradesh had gone viral.
Shreshtha Thakur was later transferred by the state’s Yogi Adityanath government to Hardoi. The brave officer had later taken to Facebook to give fitting reply to the Uttar Pradesh government.

An honest woman police officer in Madhya Pradesh has been reportedly punished by the Madhya Pradesh government after she forcibly removed black films from the glasses of a car belonging to some influential youth.
The Supreme Court in 2012 had ordered a complete ban on the use of tinted plastic films irrespective of the degree of visibility on windscreens and other glass panels of vehicles throughout the country.
Is Governor browse only through the interest which benefits her party? Why there is no condemnation on transfers of those lady officers who served honestly?
Is our mass media enlighten the Governor there is such incident in her own party ruled states?

Kiran Bedi..don't talk as BJP spokesperson. Hypocrite. Puppet governor after losing Delhi assembly election in front of common man called Kejriwal. Why you were silent on UP braveheart who took on BJP goondas? Why didn't you protested for her unlawful transfer? No doubt DIG Roopa has done a great work. We appreciate her. But Kiran Bedi has lost her right to praise her.

Kiran Bedi is one of the most honest officers India ever had.How her honesty can be dented based on party affiliations? For some may be the political party to which she belongs is the criteria to decide about her integrity.

We have had the opportunity of meeting Ms. Kiran Bedi several years ago when she visited Houston, Texas, for celebration of India's Independence Day. We still remember her valuable message to a large American as well as Indian audience. It was an inspiring message to listen to and we still remember her patriotic message. It was amazing that Ms. Kiran Bedi had already met the then Mayor of Houston when he was the Chief of Police in Los Angeles, and both of them had attended the Police Conference many years earlier. We still remember when the local College Band played the Indian National Anthem on our Independence Day celebration. It was an emotional gathering.

Yes, we fully agree that Ms Kiran Bedi is a lady of full integrity and dignity. Whichever party she belongs should not be a concern any more when patriotism will continue to play an important role for the smooth and successful running of a large nation such as India.

Yes I was her admirer too, but when I saw her deserting Kejriwal & her sycophantic utterances to please her master who projected her as Delhi C M made me rethink, we want the old Kiran Bedi & not prejudiced one who doesn't utter a word when her party shows the door or transfers upright police officers for doing their duty.
At present she should be apolitical person being a Governor of a Union Territory, she should know what to say or what line not to cross unless she resigns & be part of the party that she had chosen to further her ambitions.

Where was Kiran Bedi when upright police officer was transferred in UP for doing her duty?
She needs to keep her views to just twitter or herself rather than carry on the agenda her party wants her to carry out by giving political bashans to please her mentor in Delhi.

No doubt Kiran Bedi was an honest and upright officer during her time as a police officer. Currently she is a BJP appointed Governor in Pondicherry. It is nor fair for her to make such comment from her current post and I would wonder if she would have made such comment if the same officer had blamed the Madya Pradesh or Gujarat Government about the Same. Knowing that Karnataka has Congress Government, Bedi is the first one to take the side of IGP Roopa.

Personally, I admire the courage of IGP Roopa in this case, I support her action if she has not skipped the protocol of her department in handling this case.
