I don't choose director by their track record: Sai Dharam Tej

Chennai, Aug 8 (IANS): Actor Sai Dharam Tej says he seldom thinks about the track record of a director before joining hands and instead gives more importance to stories that can appeal to all sections of the audience.

Sai awaits the release of upcoming Telugu actioner "Jawaan", directed by BVS Ravi.

Ravi has returned to direction after six years since his Telugu directorial debut "Wanted", which bombed at the box office.

Sai said he didn't have any qualms about Ravi's track record.

"Even I have had flops. I don't think directors think about all that when they approach me with offers. I don't see the track record of a director. What's important for me is audiences' acceptance of his story and how well it can be presented," Sai told IANS.

In "Jawaan", Sai plays a character caught in the dilemma to choose between his family and country.

Although the film has a patriotic touch, it's an out-and-out action film.

"We have innovated within the action space. I hope audiences will like it. I play a tough character and I was required to shed a few kilos to look the part. There wasn't any major physical makeover," he said, clarifying that he doesn't play an army officer in the movie.

The film was shot at many live locations across Hyderabad.

Talking about the experience, he said: "We shot in real places near Charminar and Dhoolpet. It was challenging but proactive planning came very handy. On the previous night of the shoot day, we'd go to the place and have everything set up. Next morning, we'd shoot in jet speed and quickly shift from that place."

The film also stars Mehreen Pirzada and Prasanna.
