Mangalore: Secular Franciscan Order(SFO) Rings Golden Bells at Taccode

Fr. Maxim Pinto, Mangalore

Mangalore, May 11: It was indeed a great day of jubilation to the Parishioners of the Holy Cross Church, Taccode(Moodbidri),specially to the members of Secular Franciscans(Third Order)of the Parish.

A long waited Goldenday in their lives has dawned on 11th May 2008. They celebrated their Golden Jubilee with the thanks-giving Holy Mass, officiated by his grace most Rev.Dr.Aloycius Paul D`Souza, Bishop of Mangalore. Fr.Hilary Lobo, the parish priest and Fr.Maxim P Pinto, the spiritual Director of SFO,joined the Concelebration along with several other Priests.

It was a much-awaited day, to make it more meaningful they welcomed fifty new members into the Order as God-given golden gift. This is the fruit of the hard work of Gregoury Mendis(president) and his team.

The Bishop congratulated them along with their Parish Priest and blessed them with the Papal Blessings, specially brought from Rome. While addressing them, he gave them a call to be like St. Francis of Assisi who became the mirror of Christ.

At the stage programme they honored 13 founder-members who had struggled to establish this Order in this Parish along with Rev Fr. Vincent Lobo, Capuchin. They also expressed their gratefulness to all the past and present Presidents, Parish Priests and the Spiritual Directors. At the end all shared the fellowship meal and went home with the sweet memories of this great event.

It is gratifying to observe that the laity is forging ahead to help the Diocese. It is my sincere hope that more lay Franciscan orders emerge in The Diocese of Mangalore and that more and more people help The Parishes and lesson the work load on The Parish Priests. Joe Gonsalves

Congratulations to the Secular Franciscans of Taccode, Moodibidri. All these religious activities and celebrations have their own positive impact on our faith and on our community. Although we have been to Moodibidri and the surrounding areas, we have never been to a prominent and active place called Taccode. If and when we visit Mangalore, Taccode will be on our calendar. We can at least attend the Sunday liturgical services and the choir, and return home.
