Dubai: Welding Trouble Led to Media City Fire

7-days

Dubai, May 16: Faulty welding works led to the fire at one of the towers under construction in Dubai Media City on Wednesday afternoon, the company that runs the area said yesterday. “In order to ensure full safety, the Civil Defence Department also evacuated workers from a neighbouring building. The fire was extinguished within four hours,” TECOM said.

The fire accident took place in Al Salam building at around 2pm when workers were taking a lunch break. It broke out on the 47th floor of the tower located behind the BBC building.  No casualties were reported in the incident and TECOM said 609 people were safely evacuated after the accident.  A number of firefighters from different fire stations battled the blaze.
