Bengaluru: Council election - C M Ibrahim is candidate from Congress

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Aug 19: National leadership of the Congress has finalized the name of C M Ibrahim as its candidate for the election being held for the lone vacant seat in the legislative council of the state on August 31. C M Ibrahim, a former union minister, is believed to be close to chief minister, Siddaramaiah.

Congress supremo, Sonia Gandhi, made the announcement about choosing Ibrahim as party candidate. It is gathered that he will be filing his nomination papers on Monday. The seat fell vacant due to the demise of BJP MLC, Vimala Gowda.

As BJP and JDS suffer from shortage of numbers in their favour, both the parties have decided against fielding their candidates for this election. In all likelihood, Ibrahim will get elected unanimously.
