Puttur: Six People Die in Worst-ever Accident near Gundya

Puttur, May 20: In a tragic accident six persons of an extended family died in the worst-ever accident near here Gundya here, on Tuesday May 20 evening.
A few members of an extended family from Neria in Beltangady had set out on pilgrimage to Sri Kukke Subrahmanya Temple, in two jeeps. They were to attend Ashlesha Bali on Tuesday morning. After visiting Subrahmanya Temple, all of them went to Southadka. There were nearly 15 people in the group. While men travelled in one jeep, all the women were in other jeep.
At around 3.30 pm, the jeep which was carrying men rammed into a roadside tree at Pulichar, a few kilometres from Gundya. As a result, six people who were in the jeep, died on the spot. Since another jeep carrying women was leading the way and there were no other vehicles plying on the road at that time, accident was not noticed for sometime. It was only when the women realized that they had lost sight of the following jeep, they decided to go back. As they reached Pulichar, they saw the ghastly accident.
The deceased have been identified as Suryanarayan Bhat, Annu alias Gangayya, Nemanna, Naveena, Laxman and Kamal. Jeep driver Rajesh, Nemanna alias Kunjappa, Janardhan and Somanath who were critically injured have been rushed to trauma center in Mangalore.
SP Satheesh Kumar, ASP Abhishek Goel, Ravish Kumar, Uppinangady circle inspector M G Nayak, Uppinangady sub-inspector U B Nanda Kumar and Kadaba sub-inspector visited the accident spot.
Kadaba police have registered a case in this regard.
