Mangaluru: Three held for trying to smuggle ganja into prison

Mangaluru, Aug 27: A police team from Kadri station led by police inspector, Maruti G Nayak, arrested a team of three persons who were trying to carry ganja into the district prison in the city on Saturday August 26.

The arrested men happen to be Ritesh fro Gurumpe in Ashoknagar here, Ravi Poojary from Kemminje in Puttur, and Rajesh, resident of Kunjathur. After getting information that the trio was near the main gate of the prison and was trying to pass on ganja sachets to the inmates of the prison, the police rushed there and arrested the trio.

The police seized from them ganja weighing about 250 grams worth Rs 3,500. The sachets of ganja were meant to be tossed into the jail premises over the walls, the police suspect. It is said that the arrested accused were imprisoned in the past in certain cases.

Kadri police, who have registered a case, are investigating it further.
