Abu Dhabi, May 23: Mangalorean Day was celebrated here on Friday May 23 with loads of rocking entertainment comprising melodious songs and foot-tapping dances. The programme was organized by KCO.
Before the programme began, a silent prayer was offered for the departed soul of Suchita Moras.
Konkan Kogull Wilfy and Konkan Myna Meena Remimbus kept the audience on their feet with the song 'Mogachya Konknyano'. Next in line was one of the most sought after numbers of these days 'Mujhe Kaaliz Mogan Bharlam' by Babitha Pinto.
Vishwas Rebimbus who has already shown glimpses of his enormous talent too had the crowd literally dancing to his tunes for the dance number 'Konn Tem' while Meena rendered her voice to 'Jeevan Hain Amchem' followed by melodious Ivan Sequeira singing an old melody 'Zeena.'
Vishwas and Babitha then came together to present superlative duet 'Ful Fulaa' after which it was Veena Pais' turn to take the audience on a delightful trip with the romantic song 'Mog Mog Mog'.
Vishwas along with Rathan Castelino also sang 'Gaare tum Gaare Gare Podaam'. The audience was put in to a patriotic trance when Vishaws, Ivan, Babitha and Veena sang 'Vande Mataram' which made the NRIs miss their homeland all the more.
The entertainment was followed by a stage programme to felicitate the sponsors Dr B R Shetty (Sudheer Shetty), Linda Pinto, Ronald Pinto (Hyssna) and Leo Rodrigues (AL Mazroui).
KCO president Robert Rego, general secretary Leena D'Souza, former president Dolphy Vas, UAE ambassador Talmiz Ahmed and Suneetha Ahmed were present on the dais.
Wilfy and Meena Rebimbus were honoured by the ambassador on the occasion. All other artistes were also felicitated with flowers.
After the stage programme Wilfy and troupe sang a new song specially written for this event. Rathan Castelinho sang a solo 'Stella' while Wilfy and Meena sang all-time hit song 'Sureo Budon'. Vishwas and Ivan Sequeira rendered 'Emilia and Diana' while Babitha and Vishwas had the crowd swinging to foot-tapping number from hit Konkani movie "Padri" 'Ye Cchedva Tujo Mog Hanve Kelaa'. Ivan Sequeira pulled the crowd on the dance floor with 'Kushi Zaatha' and 'Marina Marina' songs.
There was also a performance by Goan troupe. The music was scored by Norman while the singers were Ancieto, Peter and Roshan.
After a sumptious lunch the entertainment continued with some more songs by Wilfy and troupe and the Goan troupe along with a novelty dance. There was a raffle draw and lots of spot prizes were given away much to the delight of the crowd.
The programme inched towards its end with non-stop baila from Wilfy and troupe which had the audience shaking their legs all the way towards the end.
Leslie Rego compered the entertainment programme in his usual inspiring and vibrant style while Jonathan Rego was the emcee for the stage programme.
The fun-filled Mangalorean Day 2008 ended with Leslie Rego singing Laudate.
