Bengaluru, Sep 6: State BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa, has sought the resignation of Bengaluru city development minister, K J George, taking into account the fact that the Supreme Court has ordered for investigation by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into suicide by deputy superintendent of police (DySP), M K Ganapati, in a lodge at Madikeri last year. Yeddyurappa said that George, having been named as accused in the case, should pave way for impartial investigation in the case by stepping down from his position.

Yeddyurappa also said that if George refuses to resign on his own, the chief minister should oust him from the ministry. He also urged the chief minister to keep IPS officers, A M Prasad and Pranab Mohanty, against whom allegations have been made, under suspension till the investigation is completed. Ganapati had also named son of minister George, in his death note.

In the meanwhile, minster K J George, who was home minister when Ganapati (51) ended his life on July 7 last year, said that he welcomes the order of the Supreme Court handing over the said case to Central Bureau of Investigation.

"State criminal investigation department has already looked into the case and filed 'B' report, absolving me of the charges. When this investigation was ordered, I had voluntarily resigned as home minister of Karnataka. As CBI will be looking into the same case, I do not think there is a need for me to resign," he felt.

"Just because Yeddyurappa seeks it, I cannot submit my resignation. There are cases against several central ministers. None of them have resigned. I too need not step down from my position," he added.
